Are You One of the 87% of Women Who Hate Their Thighs?
…and if so, will thigh liposuction be a potential solution?
It’s always been the case that a large number of women find aspects of their bodies upsetting, but the number who have become extremely distressed over the appearance of their thighs appears to be on the rise.
(A massive increase in interest in having a “thigh gap”, caused by ultra skinny models doesn’t seem to have helped…)
Anyway, if you are concerned by the appearance of your thighs, you are definitely not alone.
Thigh liposuction can help you in some situations, but it is important that you understand that liposuction it is not always the best form of treatment for the problem, and it could be that your plastic surgeon suggests a thigh lift, or another alternative treatment instead.
When Thigh Lipo is the best surgical technique for you…
Despite what some people in the health and fitness industry will tell you, there really is such a thing as diet-resistant fat! Many of the best patients have already tried diet and exercise to combat the build-up of fat around the outer and inner thighs, and around the hips, bottom area and lower back.
But in spite of all their efforts, these areas just refuse to show improvement.
If this sounds at all like you, there is a very high chance that thigh liposuction is your best bet.
When Lipo is not going to help…
Here’s the problem with liposuction – as with any method of reducing fat, whether by diet, gastric surgery, or by liposuction, if you have issues of sagging skin on your thighs, or rippling of the skin due to a loss of elasticity, liposuction won’t help with this, and can sometimes make these issues more noticeable.
On the other hand, the thigh lift is very much a trade-off, as although lifting is sometimes the most effective way to improve the contours of the thighs, it is more invasive, resulting in a longer recovery time, and scarring that needs to be managed very carefully, to avoid creating a situation where you have a scar that is more unsightly than the combination of loose skin and excess fat that was bothering you in the first place!
Realistically, the only way that you will be able to know with any certainty which treatment is best for you is by getting a consultation with a plastic surgeon, and even better, with several different surgeons. And your surgeon should actually meet you, or at the very least see some photos, before he can accurately diagnose what sort of treatment will work best in your personal circumstances.
In addition, you need to understand that although a fair amount of fat can be removed from your thighs using modern liposuction techniques, it is not a suitable method to treat you if you are actually obese, it is a procedure to treat localized, stubborn fatty deposits.
This is not to say that a good doctor of plastic surgery will be unable to help you, simply that this procedure may not be the one most suitable in your case.
It is also worth pointing out that sometimes it is not only the thigh area which is causing the appearance of fat thighs. Very often we find that that the fat around the thighs is actually more of an overspill from fat around the back and hips.
Again this requires a slightly different approach; there’s no point in your doctor just performing thigh liposuction when the problem is partly caused by excess fatty deposits in your hips and lower back.
Thigh liposuction may be the correct procedure for you if you meet the following criteria:
- You do not currently have excessive loose skin
- You are not obese
- The problem areas you want treated are highly-localized, and have not responded to diet/exercise.
- Your plastic surgeon has concluded (following a proper consultation with you) that thigh liposuction will get the best results for you.
Some of the very best results are achieved using a combination of liposuction and thigh lift surgery.
