After weight loss, and particularly after massive weight loss, it is unfortunately the case that the patient is left with excess skin, where the skin has lost its elasticity. This is normal, but often feels quite cruel if you have successfully lost significant pounds, and were expecting to have an improvement in your self-esteem, only to be faced with sagging skin.
There is realistically no way to fix this problem non-surgically, at least at the moment. Excess skin removal is performed by variously-named procedures, depending on the area targeted, for instance Brachioplasty (Arm Lift Surgery), Thighplasty (Thigh Lift Surgery), Gluteoplasy (Buttock Lift Surgery).
In extreme cases, a patient may require a Total Body Lift, where weight loss has left surplus skin in many different areas of the body. This becomes a very intensive set of surgeries, and requires the most skilled and reputable surgeons. The recovery period will be intense, and should be supervised, since with this level of surgery the risks of infection and complications are multiplied greatly.
In all instances, checking the credentials of your surgeon and clinic is essential. Take time to check online reviews, visit forums, and make sure that you are shown pictures of your surgeon’s previous work.
